DESCRIPTION:On Sat. May 25 from 9-11AM\, the Trescott Rec Committee is looking for volunteers to help pull invasives (mainly glossy buckthorn) on a section of the South Perimeter Trail on the Trescott lands. The section that we will target is close to the Trescott Road entrance. All you need to bring is work gloves. You may also want to pack insect repellent in case the black flies are out. \nFor those that are interested\, we’ll also do a 2.5 mile guided loop hike/walk on the S. Perimeter Trail around 11 AM. \nMeet at the Trescott Rd. entrance on Sat. May 25 at 9AM. \nLeader: Tom Jack.

DESCRIPTION:Professor Erich Osterberg discusses the impact of melting polar caps on New England. This is a hybrid event.  Join us in person in the Mayer Room of the Howe Library or online via Zoom. No registration required in person; register for Zoom here. This program is co-sponsored by the Hanover Conservancy and the Howe Library. \nThe polar regions are warming faster than the rest of the globe\, but what happens at the poles doesn’t stay at the poles. In this talk\, we’ll explore the latest research on how melting snow and ice at both poles raises sea level\, changes storm patterns\, and may accelerate warming here in New England. Erich Osterberg will discuss his field research on glacier ice cores\, and discuss how localized climate impacts can reverberate across the globe. A Q&A session will follow Erich’s remarks.
