City Nature Challenge at Mink Brook
April 25 @ 7:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Join the Hanover Conservancy, the Connecticut River Conservancy, and Hanover Parks and Recreation for an Earth Week bio blitz at Mink Brook Nature Preserve! Part of a planet-wide citizen science effort, participants in the City Nature Challenge will search for a variety of plant and animal life, learning how to identify species, and how to record their observations on iNaturalist. No prior experience is necessary, just a curiosity about the natural world!
Throughout the morning different experts will lead public walks focused geared toward their respective specialties. We’ll also have technical support available for those interested in learning the iNaturalist system.
At 7am, Gail McPeek and Tom Sherry will lead a bird walk, as we hope to catch recent arrivals and short-time visitors during the spring migration season.
At 9am, Alice Schori and Lynnwood Andrews will lead a botany walk, as we turn our attention downward at the incredible diversity of plant life.
And at noon we’ll host a family-friendly activity for budding scientists and explorers.
While we hope to see you for one of our guided walks, the City Nature Challenge runs the entire weekend, and we encourage everyone to get out and record their observations whether as part of a group or on their own.
For more information and a sign up link can be found at the event’s official EventBrite page here.
While we love our furry friends, we ask that you leave your dogs at home while attending public events, thank you!
