Thanks to the volunteers who came out on Upper Valley Trails Day to help Bill Knight repair and stabilize our beautiful bridge. Next up – a new round of activity at our Balch Hill Natural Area, where we are working under a cost-share grant from the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service to restore habitat and this historic agricultural landscape. Wider views will be the reward for human visitors!
This weekend’s trips
Come out and join us this weekend! On Saturday afternoon, we’ll be flying kites at Balch Hill and enjoying the newly opened views of Mt. Ascutney, the old stone wall, and parts of downtown Hanover. Thanks to the Swett Family for their essential support of this effort.
On Mother’s Day, Sunday afternoon, we’ll explore the McKinley Tract in search of spring wildflowers. Details here.
Bonfire at Balch Hill…XC Ski at Morton Farm
Bitter temps – time for a bonfire! On Friday, the Balch Hill Stewardship Committee will burn a large brush pile from this fall’s view restoration clearing. Helpers and onlookers are welcome as long as kids and dogs are kept under control.
Join us for a cross-country ski tour of the extensive trail system at Dartmouth’s Morton Farm on Saturday morning, January 26. Gorgeous views! MORE
Balch Hill Fund Challenge Met!
We have met our $2000 challenge! Thanks to 28 generous Balch Hill neighbors and friends, we’re able to bring another $1000 to our new Balch Hill Fund. There’s still time to add your gift before year’s end – click on the “donate now” button at right.
Thanks from all of us, and Happy Holidays!
Sayonara, Sandy
Thanks to those who reported downed trees and limbs courtesy of Hurricane Sandy. We have two trees down across the trails at each of the following natural areas: Greensboro Ridge, Balch Hill Natural Area, and Mink Brook. Our volunteers will be heading out to clear these obstructions and hazards as soon as possible. If you’d like to help, please contact us.
