Anniversary Hike: Mayor-Niles & Britton Forests

Mink Brook Community Forest Celebration

August 27, 2021

Join the Trust for Public Land, Town of Hanover, Hanover Conservancy, and Northern Forest Center to celebrate the long-awaited permanent conservation of these beautiful 250 acres on Greensboro Road.  Park at the newly constructed parking area on the north side of Greensboro Road between #108 and #110. Feel free to carpool, walk, or ride your bike to the event. You may choose to park at Farr Field, near the junction of Etna, Greensboro, and Great Hollow Road, and walk to the event. If you need assistance with parking, please contact Sarah Erb.

Our celebration will be held under the tent in the meadow across the way. Rain or shine!

3:00-4:15pm – speaking program and light refreshments

4:15-5:00pm – walks of the property guided by Hanover Conservation Commission members: Hugh Mellert will lead an easy walk over a mowed path around the field loop on the south parcel. Whit Spaulding will lead a more challenging hike on the north parcel to the fen via a rough trail with some bushwhacking.

Powder Pop-up! Snowshoe Hike at Huntington Hill

February 3, 2021

Join leader Gail McPeek this Saturday for a pop-up snowshoe hike on Huntington Hill, limited to 9 participants. Registration is required, please sign up here! Registrants will receive an email with the meeting location.

Snowshoes available to borrow. Masks required- please BYO. The route has no steep slopes, but with this fresh, deep snow, the hike will likely be moderately strenuous.

CHaD HERO Hike this Sunday

October 9, 2018

Hikers and hunters, please note that the woods will be busier than normal this Sunday, October 14th.

Both the 5- and 7-mile hiking routes for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) HERO event wind their way through the Mink Brook Nature Preserve. Volunteers will be directing HERO hikers at major junctions from approximately 10-2.

Moonlight Hike at Slade Brook – March 3

March 2, 2012

Our annual moonlight hike is slated for 5-8pm, to prowl the Slade Brook watershed by the light of the waxing, gibbous moon and then gather around a bonfire. Headlamps and snowshoes are advised; extra snowshoes available. A great trip for families with children 7 and up. Meet at 11 Old Lyme Road. We hope the weather will clear out in time – for questions, call leader Hugh Mellert at 646-3903 (office) or 643-7778.
